Royal Hospital for Children & Young People

Welcome to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (RHCYP).  We hope this site can help you find your way around the hospital and answer your questions about the departments and wards where your care and treatment will occur.

The new RHCYP has been built directly next to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE) and Simpson’s Maternity unit.

We accept referrals up to 16 years of age but, due to transition in some specialties, we may continue to treat those already within our system until 18 years of age. We look after patients aged 0-15 in the Emergency Department.

Address: 50 Little France Crescent, Edinburgh bio Quarter, Edinburgh, EH16 4TJ.

Switchboard Telephone: 0131 536 1000

Reception

There is a reception on the ground floor of the RHCYP next to the main entrance, for help and information.  Families attending Outpatient appointments do not need to visit the main reception, but should check-in at Outpatients reception, where you will be directed to your clinic.  If you are visiting Accident & Emergency, please follow the signs to the Emergency department on the ground floor, which has its own reception to greet patients on arrival and book them in.

General rules for the RHCYP

We kindly remind patients and visitors of our general site rules:
  • no smoking anywhere within the hospital or grounds, including terraces and courtyards
  • no alcohol or drugs permitted
  • no hot drinks in the RHCYP patient areas (e.g. takeaway coffee)
  • please remove all rubbish from the terraces and courtyards
  • no bicycles to be brought inside the building
