Radio Lollipop

Radio Lollipop
Radio Lollipop has been entertaining children and young people in hospital since 1979 and broadcasting in Edinburgh since 3 June 1989. Our brand new, purpose-built studio at the RHCYP is our new home, full of the latest kit to broadcast around the hospital, with glass doors that open up to let young patients see inside while we’re ‘On Air’!

Our radio services broadcast 24 hours-a-day with our own unique blend of music; a perfect mix for children and young people in hospital. We encourage and invite children and young people in hospital and their families to come to the Radio Lollipop studio (on the ground floor, in the Outpatient Pod area) while we are on air. Young patients can be the DJ, choose the music, take and make shout-outs, and help us make the radio station work.

We also run a special radio channel called LolliTots which is designed for pre-school children and babies with songs and stories to help develop their bond with parents and carers.

How to listen

Radio Lollipop broadcasts live from the RHCYP on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6pm – 8pm, with volunteer DJs running a live show with music and jingles, competitions and opportunities for young patients to get involved. At other times, children and young people can tune in through the patient entertainment system at their bedside. Lollitots is also available in this way for younger patients. Find the Radio Lollipop posters on each ward with a QR code. Scan the code to upload the Radio Lollipop App onto your personal device and you’re ready to listen! You can also make requests and enter the competitions through the App Radio Lollipop and Lollitots can both be found on the patient bedside TVs at the RHCYP.

Fun on the wards

Our volunteers also work at the bedside of the children in hospital, visiting them with radio-themed craft activities, contests and competitions, delivering prizes, fun, laughter and engagement at every level - including parents and siblings in the fun.

Contact the Studio

Go online to make a request. Requests can be taken from patients themselves, or from friends and family at home for a child or young person currently in hospital. Text requests can also be made by texting 66777 – start the message with ‘lollipop’ and make a song request with the artist and song name. Call on 0131 312 0369 and speak to the radio presenter when a live show is on.

About Us
