Home Sleep Study

• Please remove any nail polish, false nails or gel tips –these prevent us from getting an oxygen signal, making your study inaccurate.
• Wear appropriate clothing as you will be recorded on camera overnight.
• Allow enough time before your usual bedtime to set up the equipment as shown in this leaflet.
• Follow your usual bedtime routine as far as possible.

• The night staff will contact you to do a set-up check.
• If you are unsure of anything you can call the night staff on this number on the night of the study only: 0131 536 0701.

1. Set up the camera and tripod around 1 metre from the bed's foot, with the black side pointing towards it. The camera must be plugged into a power socket before the study starts and throughout the study. Please use the extension cable provided if required.
2. Attach the sleep study equipment as shown opposite.
3. The device will start recording automatically –see time on back page. A green light will come on and signals will appear on the screen. After a few moments, a red light will appear in the top left corner of the screen. After a few moments the screen will shut off, the device is still recording.
4. A staff member will call shortly after your study starts time to do a set-up check. They will ask you to press the power button on the device (see below). 
5. They will then ask you to read the SpO2number (see below)
6. If there are any problems with set-up, staff will talk you through troubleshooting when they call. It would be best if you were contactable during the study.

The equipment should be fitted over your usual nightwear.

Cannula

Measures breathing through the nose The cannula fits into the nostrils. Hook the cannula over the ears and tighten under the chin. Apply tape on both cheeks to hold in place. If you are on ventilation during your study, you will not have this –please see below If you need a TCM study to measure carbon dioxide levels during sleep, you will be given a separate information sheet about this. If any of the sensors come off the main unit overnight this is where to attach them back: Effort bands (bottom left, please match up pins). Cannula screwed into port (bottom left). Finger probe (bottom right, please match up pins).

Your study will stop automatically. After that time, remove all the equipment carefully and replace it in the box
