Coming to the hospital can seem strange – and maybe a bit scary. It looks different from home and can be busy at times. You might have an appointment at a clinic, or you might need to stay in a ward. There is lots of information here to help you know what to expect. And if you have any questions, our nurses, doctors, and other adults helping you will always do their best to answer them.
Coming for an appointment
If you need to visit us for an appointment, you are an ‘outpatient’ or ‘day case patient’ and don’t need to stay overnight in the hospital. You might come for a check-up, a chat with a doctor, specialist nurse or someone else involved in your care, like a physiotherapist. You might also have some tests, like an x-ray, scan or blood test. There are several places that you might be asked to come. Here are some of them:
- Outpatients at the RHCYP in Edinburgh
- Planned Investigation Unit, Dirleton Ward, RHCYP in Edinburgh
- Lauriston Building, Edinburgh
- Children’s Ward, St. John’s Hospital
- A local clinic near to where you live
